Lesson 01: Public Health Laws

This section explains how the government laws and public health inspectors help keep our food safe, and what your role is in following those rules.

Lesson 02: Foodborne Illness

This section looks at how food can make people sick, what causes foodborne illness, and how to prevent it.

Lesson 03: Safe Food Handling

This section covers the four basic rules of safe food handling—keeping clean, separating raw and cooked foods, cooking food properly, and storing it safely—to help prevent illness and keep food safe.

Lesson 04: Cross-Contamination

This section explains how to keep germs from spreading between foods, tools, and surfaces to help keep everyone safe.

Lesson 05: Food Flow

This section explains the eight stages of food flow—from receiving to serving—and how to spot and prevent safety risks at each step.

The Food Handling and Safety Certificate for Frontlines and PSWs is an easy-to-follow online course that teaches the basics of keeping food safe—whether you’re working in healthcare, caregiving, or the restaurant industry. Through simple lessons and a final exam, you’ll learn how to handle, cook, and store food properly, understand food safety laws, and prevent illness, all with support and guidance along the way. 

Yes, you will receive a certificate! Once you complete the course and score 70% or higher on the online exam, your Food Handling and Safety Certificate will be automatically generated and sent to you right away.

No prior experience is required. This course is designed for both beginners and experienced individuals who want to improve their food safety knowledge in caregiving or healthcare settings.
